Ear Piercings FAQ in Olympia, WA

Should you twist new ear piercings?

Don’t touch a new piercing or twist the jewelry unless you’re cleaning it. Keep clothing away from the piercing, too. Excessive rubbing or friction can irritate your skin and delay healing. Keep the jewelry in place.

Should I take my earring out if it’s infected?

Don’t take out the earring! Clean the infected area 3 times a day. Wash hands with soap and water before touching the ear or earring. Use cotton swab (“Q-Tip”) dipped in pierced ear solution (see #3 below).

Should I rotate my new ear piercing?

There’s no reason to rotate your piercing. You could damage the delicate, healing skin by rotating the jewelry. In the past, rotating the jewelry was recommended, but it has been found to cause damage that can lead to infection and scarring. For happy healing, NEVER rotate your body jewelry.

What is the best ear piercing to get?

Lobe is the most popular piercing and the first piercing most people get. As the lobe is the softest part of the ear and doesn’t have any cartilage, it’s the easiest part to pierce and is the least painful. The standard lobe piercing simply goes through the front to the back of the lobe.

What foods should you avoid after ear piercing?

Don’t eat spicy, salty or acidy foods or liquids while you are healing. Avoid hot drinks such as hot chocolate, coffee, and tea. Eat cold foods and drinks as they lessen swelling. Be extra careful when eating crunchy foods.

What is the average age for a girl to get her ears pierced?

“Remember that age 10 is just the average age that children have their ears pierced, it’s not a rule.

Can I take out my ear piercing after 2 weeks?

At two weeks, the piercing is not healed. You really should not remove the earring at all until it is completely healed. Taking it in and out before it heals just risks infection and injury, makes it longer to heal, and risks that you won’t be able to heal right and keep an earring in it.

How do you shower with a new piercing?

Showering: Shower like you normally do; the last thing you will do while in the shower is clean your piercing. Lather up some mild, fragrance free, non-antibacterial soap in your hands and gently wash your piercing. You want enough friction to clean the piercing, but not so much that you cause trauma to it.

What does a healing piercing look like?

Discoloration (redness) and itching during healing process are also fairly common. Secretion of a whitish-yellow fluid (not pus) is part of the healing process and is to be expected. It is liquid when it leaves the body but dries into “crusties.” Piercings will go through “ups and downs” while healing.

What do ear piercings help with?

The piercing associated with the inside corner of your ear helps relieve any chronic pain, such as the spinal and lower back. It is one of the more intense ear piercings to get, but many people get it done nowadays for its benefits. Some have even reported it helps aid indigestion.

How do I know if my ear piercing is healed?

Typically, ear lobe piercings take around 4-6 months, while upper or inner ear piercings take between 6-12+ months to fully heal. You’ll know your ear is healed once any discharge, swelling, redness, flaking, or soreness stops.

What is the least painful spot to get your ears pierced?

A helix piercing is a cartilage placement on the outer upper rim of your ear. Because the cartilage is thinner on the upper ear, helix piercings tend to be the least painful cartilage piercing. They measure around a 4-5/10 on the pain scale and take around 3-6 months to fully heal.

Which month is best for piercing?

However, less blood flow also means less possibility of swelling, so you may want to schedule your piercing for winter. If you play summer sports, or hit the pool frequently during summer, it might be better for you to get your piercing in winter to give it enough time to heal and ready to show it off in summer!
