Ear Piercings FAQ in Clarksburg, WV

Which piercing is the hardest to heal?

A helix piercing is in the cartilage of the upper ear. While it’s not a particularly painful procedure, it has one of the longest healing times, taking 6–12 months to completely heal.

Is it better to get your helix pierced with a gun or needle?

How should ear cartilage be pierced? ‘Cartilage should always be pierced with a needle. A piercing gun isn’t designed for cartilage, only soft tissue and even then I wouldn’t recommend it. Piercing cartilage with a gun can create hardcore hypertrophic scarring and even blow it up.

Should I take my earring out if it’s infected?

Don’t take out the earring! Clean the infected area 3 times a day. Wash hands with soap and water before touching the ear or earring. Use cotton swab (“Q-Tip”) dipped in pierced ear solution (see #3 below).

Is it painful to get your ears pierced?

While you shouldn’t feel more than a pinch when the needle goes through your ear with lobe piercings, cartilage piercings are known to be quite painful, initially feeling a sharp shock before experiencing a duller throbbing pain.

Which ear piercing is easiest to sleep on?

Daith piercings are one of the few you can initially puncture with a ring instead of a stud. It’s located between the tragus and lower part of the forward helix in the innermost part of your ear (a pressure point some claim can help with migraines), which keeps it protected from irritation during sleep.

Should ear piercing hurts after 3 days?

Signs of an infection It is important to note that your piercing may be tender or painful for up to 3-5 days after the procedure was performed. This is normal. Sleeping directly on your ears or side may prolong the tenderness due to the pressure on the piercing site.

What hurts more to get pierced?

The nostril piercing is considered slightly more painful than ears and lips and this is because you are piercing through cartilage which is tougher than skin and therefore hurts a little bit more. However, most people describe a nostril piercing as a very brief sting that makes your eyes water and can make you sneeze.

Should I clean the crust off my piercing?

Crusting after body piercing is normal—this might just be the result of your body trying to heal itself. While perfectly normal, these crusties should be cleaned carefully and thoroughly whenever you notice them.

How painful is a helix piercing?

Cartilage piercings generally fall low on the pain scale. It will depend on the specific location of the helix piercing, however, you shouldn’t feel more than a slight pinch. Since the cartilage in the helix piercing area is so thin, the piercing process goes quickly.

Should both ear piercings match?

“There are no set rules, as there are so many different ear shapes and anatomy variations,” says Nicole. “However, for the best result you should aim to create a balance with enough spacing, as well as mirroring other piercings on the ear.

When can I sleep on my earlobe piercing?

The general rule of thumb is to avoid sleeping in earrings, with one exception: when you get a new piercing. You’ll need to keep these small studs in for 6 weeks or longer, or until your piercer gives you the OK.

Is 4 weeks enough for ear piercing?

The general healing period is 6 weeks for earlobes and 12 weeks for cartilage or helix. If you have a nose piercing, 4 weeks is sufficient. Keep in mind that this period is only possible if you have no infection or nickel reaction along the way.

What piercings heal the fastest?

Tongue piercings have the fastest healing duration of all piercings at only two weeks before you can downsize the bar. Lower lip piercings have a minimum of 6-8 weeks, while upper lip piercings (such as madonna or monroe piercings) take around 8 weeks.

Can you bring your own earrings to get pierced?

In short, yes—you can bring your own jewelry to a piercing shop. However, we recommend that you only do so if the jewelry is made from high-quality materials such as surgical steel, titanium, or gold.
